From Innsbruck, Austria, the Ecuadorian brings the gold medal won in the Climbing Youth World Championship, speed mode.
Carlos Felipe Granja, an 18-year-old born in Imbabura, Ecuador, surpassed Seungbeom Lee from Korea with a final time of 6.39 seconds, while Lee made 6.43.
The love for climbing began at a young age, at 7 years old Granja was already practicing. His first world gold medal came in France in 2014. The second Youth World Cup in which he won the gold medal in “overall” mode was in 2015 in Arco, Italy.
This time he brought back a medal and a national record. To achieve this, he has had the support of his family and friends. His father, Juan Carlos Granja, included the Ministry of Sports, Fedeimbabura, Lucio’s Boys and Star Cinemas in his acknowledgments.
For his part, Carlos also wanted to thank his longtime coach, Paúl López and his nutritionist, Roberto Vásquez Terán.
Now he prepares for the Pan American in Canada in November aiming to qualify for the 2020 Olympics where he intends to win another gold.
